Apical Dominance

Apical dominance refers to the phenomenon in which the terminal bud of a plant inhibits the growth of lateral buds below it. This is due to the production and distribution of hormones called auxins. The terminal bud, also known as the apical meristem, releases auxins that suppress the growth of lateral buds, directing the plant's energy towards vertical growth. This is why the main stem of a plant tends to grow taller than its side branches. By understanding and manipulating apical dominance, growers can control the shape and growth of cannabis plants, promoting desired traits and maximizing yields.
