Endocannabinoid System

The endocannabinoid system is a complex cell-signaling system in the human body that plays a crucial role in regulating various physiological processes. It consists of endocannabinoids, receptors, and enzymes. The endocannabinoids, such as anandamide and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), are naturally produced by the body and bind to cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) located throughout the body. This system helps maintain homeostasis by regulating functions like mood, sleep, appetite, pain sensation, and immune response. The activation of cannabinoid receptors by endocannabinoids or external cannabinoids, like those found in cannabis, can have various effects on the body and may provide therapeutic benefits for certain conditions.
