Medical marijuana was legalized in Florida when Ballot Amendment 2 passed in 2016. Patients age 18 or older can qualify for a compassionate care medical program if they have a doctor's note and one of twelve qualifying conditions. Patients can obtain a medical marijuana card from licensed physicians, who are restricted from certifying more than three 70-day supply limits of marijuana or more than six 35-day supply limits, specifically for smokable products, which must be 2.5 ounces or less. As of this month, Florida is strongly considering putting recreational cannabis on the ballot in November and has already been discussing legislature for the prospective recreational laws.
